It is hard isn’t it Susan. I applaud your determination to give money away early. I have seen many wait and wait and wait when in fact the recipients, children or otherwise, time of need is often many years earlier than the givers older age or death. The added benefit been you can watch and enjoy the impact of your giving

Future me?

Hard to imagine, you pose some great questions.

But on the subject of financial planning

Loved this piece...Ruth! First...we have something in common...you were a Nurse and my Father was a Nurse! No wonder...we both are in helping professionals!! As a financial professional, one never retires😃 Because we would continue to help our friends and family every once in a while in an informal way. As far as managing in the old age...we have one more thing in common...no kids!! My spouse and I have decided to live in a very small town in the next 5 years. I will be 61 by then. I prefer to live next to the show capped mountain on the one side, a beautiful river and forest around us. Whereas she wants to live near the beach! Lol! We will meet half way...I guess...sooner or later! And...may be find a nice community! As far as 'Giving' is concerned, we plan to give some to our nieces and nephews and some to 'causes' that we feel closely aligned to...like old age homes ( we have been doing that every now and then). That cruise is cool! Someday want to go there!! Enjoy every moment of your life!!

Thanks Partha. How interesting your father was a nurse, quite an unusual profession for a man then, and still now it seems. It sounds like you have a beautiful vision of your future, even if there is some negotiation to be done! I am sure you and your wife will land the compromise needed. I thoroughly recommend a trip to the Norwegian Fjords, stunning scenery.

As for your final sentence, that's my plan, best i can :-)

Great Blog thanks Ruth. I have 2 boys but who knows where they or I will end in the world with lives/careers, in today's society being self reliant is important. x
