Never knew the pre-nup wasn't a legal thing in the UK. I think by the time you get past 50, both parties have to be realistic about their financial positions and having that conversation means you are ready to proceed to the next stage (marriage, living together) etc. Looks like my conversation is imminent!

Not legal Corrienne but the courts will take into account on divorce so definitely worth getting proper advice. And I agree your thoughts, sounds like a pretty mature way forward for all parties I reckon! Maybe we do get wiser as we get older…😘Good luck with your conversation x

A really useful piece Ruth, thank you. I hope I never need it but if I were in a new relationship it would be a must. Like death money can be hard to talk about when you are in love.

I'm glad you agree Susan - Money and emotions are a recipe for fraught conversations but they don't have to be if handled sensitively ...i appreciate that's easier said then done sometimes!

So important, yet people really don’t like talking about their money eh?🧐 I am sure she will have a great financial planner to help 🤗

It's so hard for many isn't it Sharon but can be crucial at the start of a relationship, as well as throughout. As for a great FP to help, i really couldn't comment ;-) x

Tomorrow I am going to court as backup support for a friend’s divorce after 1 year She met this wonderful guy. A schoolteacher We all liked him. He seemed kind, funny , very loving and romantic. OMG. You never know. He was an alcoholic. Sold his place and moved in and she could not get him out. He is during her for more money. I’d bring up the issue of finances seems to difficult or sensitive an issue: don’t get married until you have enough openness to talk about such issues.
