Ruth you should absolutely be a coach, a mentor, a guide. I think it would be amazing to work with someone who challenged me, dug around a bit for my strengths and then help me play to them. We all need this, whatever age and whatever industry. Accountability is key and weβre all left to our own devices tbh and therefore not reaching our full potential. Go Gurl! πβ€οΈ
Hi Ruth I had very good experience of a Mentor, not in finance, but in my Art Practice β¦ after retiring from 25 years in Marketing
I wanted to have a solo art show but lacked the confidence .. my mentor a successful artist guided me and in 2008 I had a hugely successful show at The Courtyard in Hereford - over 200 attended the Private View - I was overwhelmed and exhausted!
Oh I totally agree, I am heading the same direction, to continue being of service, that mentor, sound board for advisers. I know when I was an adviser I would have loved support in conversations with clients and as you say managing the business cashflow requirement while providing a great service to clients, not to mention ones own personal life.
Question this raised for me and came more recently when I was mentoring financial coaches was around holding space. Holding your own self at check, when a client is sharing a challenging time, remembering you are there to provide/share your Specialist knowledge.
Thanks for your comments Eila. As a coach (and normal human being!) itβs SO tempting to wade in with our own stories - βnarrative takeoverβ as Brene would say- when what our clients need is spaceβ¦to feel safe, process and think. The impact for the coachee of holding that space is gold.

That is a great example of the power of a mentor Janine. Thanks for sharing it. Sounds like quite a show! No wonder you were exhausted!
