Picture the scene.
I’m sitting on a rickety deck, sipping a delicious, chilled glass of Cote de Gascon, eating oysters fresh from the Bay of Arachon, accompanied by crusty, moreish French bread, thickly spread with salty butter, listening to the sea lap at the shore…
I knew it was a special treat because Zoe (the mid life, middle class woman’s favourite friend or foe?) hated it. A score of about 10/100 – a gastronomic delight indeed.
My question
Was I savouring the food or imbibing the ambient atmosphere?
For sure, at that moment, sausage and mash wouldn’t have cut it.
Equally, on a chilly autumnal London evening, the last thing I’m going to reach for is a slap in the face salty oyster!
I reckon it’s all about taste and place.
You
Oysters may not be your thing, but I’m sure something will be.
What’s been your sense of ‘taste and place’ for Summer ’24? Do drop me a line, I’d love to picture your happy, tasty place.
And don’t forget, you’re never going to be any younger than you are today so what are you waiting for? Go savour that literal or metaphorical treat!
Until next week my friends, when I may just have a money moment,

I’m studying Elemental Alchemy Qi Gong Ruth and was really surprised to learn that we should try to eat according to taste eg have something salty, bitter, sour, sweet, spicy in every meal. When i think about it i rarely consider this when planning a meal but now I’m trying it I’m fascinated to see how easy it is to eat the Zoe way. It’s also much more satiating when there’s more variety. Interesting stuff eh? X
I think it's spelled Arcachon......
