Nostalgia

What a fun Bank Holiday weekend I’ve just enjoyed with lovely friends just outside of Pershore in the West Midlands. I recall fruit picking around the area, Evesham to be precise, when I was a kid. These days the lilting, local, Brummie-ish accents take me back to my early childhood in Birmingham, evoking a visceral sense of home. Fascinating given we moved to North Devon when I was six or seven.

Photos aplenty were taken of our weekend shenanigans, a Cuban themed party no less¹

We laughed at the pictures; admiring the ones where we felt we ‘looked good’ and grimacing at those that aged or skewed our self perception.

I was reminded it was ever thus. Except those photos I would’ve viewed through critical eyes 5, 10, 15 years ago, my older self now looks at nostalgically and, indeed, kindly.

Moira Rose had it bang on.
